Born in 1983, Geoff Wedge is a documentary photographer from North Wales whose work explores displacement, inequality, place and the ways people adapt to circumstances beyond their control.

His more focused documentary practice developed in North Wales with House in the Sun, a long term project examining the changing landscape of Rhyl and the impact of regeneration on the people who live there. The work became an important foundation for his practice, combining an interest in social issues with a quieter, observational approach to the everyday lives of those affected by wider social and economic change including the compulsory purchase orders that displaced residents as part of Rhyl’s regeneration. House in the Sun has been exhibited as part of photography festivals and exhibitions with support from the Arts Council of Wales and the National Library of Wales.

This interest in people living through periods of uncertainty continued with Medyka Portraits, photographed on the Polish-Ukrainian border in 2022. The project focused on people arriving from Ukraine and the brief encounters between photographer and subject at a moment of upheaval and displacement.

More recently, Geoff has continued to explore migration and displacement in Ceuta, the Spanish enclave in North Africa, through his series The Migrants Who Remained: Life in Limbo in Ceuta, documenting the lives of people caught between borders and living with uncertainty while waiting for what comes next. Across these projects, his work is concerned less with the moment of crisis itself than with the quieter human realities that follow; adapting, rebuilding and waiting.

Geoff’s work has been exhibited and presented at events including the Aberystwyth International Photography Festival and the Arctic Arts Festival Photobooks Show, commissioned by the Norwegian Arts Council. He has also received a Shots Young Photographer of the Year Award for his work George & Nathan.

His photographs have been published by The Times, The Guardian, Evening Standard and LBC, among others. He has also worked as a stills production photographer on film and television productions for Canadian production company Cineflix.

Geoff holds a BA (Hons) in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales, Newport, where he trained at the Newport School of Photography. Alongside his photographic practice, he lectures part-time in photography at Llandrillo College in North Wales.
